Praise be to God!!! We welcome Bro. O. C. Summers as pastor. Bro. O. C. is a native of Morrow, Louisiana where he served for several decades in different Baptist churches as Minister of Music, Pulpit Supply, Interim Pastor, Adult Sunday School Teacher, Church Pianist, etc. He also taught math, physics & computer programming to students in public education for over 34 years before retiring in 2000 from one of the Technical Colleges in the Louisiana College System. Bro. O. C. is married to Rhoda Marson Summers and they will celebrate their 44th Wedding Anniversary on July 14th of this year (2013). Rhoda has been very active in the different churches serving as Sunday School Teacher, Music Director, WMU Director, etc. They have one son, Jamie Dale Summers, who resides in Enterprise, Alabama and who retired after 20.5 years of service in the U.S. Army, where during his last 3.5 years of service he served as First Sergeant at Ft. Rucker, Alabama over all the men and women who were training to be pilots for the U. S. Army. Rhoda & O. C. also have 4 lovely grand-daughters and 1 precious great-grandson. Rhoda's parents, Bro. Oliver Marson and Ms. Ellie Lee Marson, served faithfully as missionaries, pastor/wife, etc., for over 45 years. Dad's last position of service for the Lord was as "Director Of Missions" for the Southern Baptist Convention here in South Dakota with an office on St. Joseph Street here in Rapid City, SD prior to his being taken home to Heaven. Bro. O. C.'s parents, Charles C. Summers & Maggie Sibley Summers, were active in their church, Morrow Baptist Church, for over 60 years. Since 2006, Rhoda and O. C. have been here in the Black Hills helping to take care of Rhoda's mother. Bro. O. C. has served as Interim Pastor here at Rapid Valley Baptist Church since June 1, 2012, and the Lord as richly blessed his ministry here. During these months, the members of our church have grown richly in knowledge and spirit, and we have had many folks unite with our church - through baptism, transfer of membership, etc. We thank God for sending Bro. O. C. to us, and we hope and pray that we can continue to know God' Will as our church continues to reach out to the many folks in our community and elsewhere. Again, all praise for everything accomplished goes to Almighty God!!!
